Spokane Rapids, previously Spokane Valley Junior Soccer Association always needs volunteer coaches for our youth recreational teams.  Don’t worry if you haven’t coached before — or even played.  We have plenty of resources that will help you learn to coach kids. 

What are the time commitments? 
A typical Spokane Rapids recreational team will have one or two one-hour long practices each week, depending on age.  A season is typically 8 weeks of games in the Fall and 6 weeks of games in the Spring.  The games are mostly held on Saturdays, except for the Spring Lilac Cup Tournament which includes games on Sunday.

I’m not sure if I’m ready to be a head coach…can I just help with a team? 
Yes!  When registering, there is an option to select ‘Assistant Coach.’  Coaches are also able to ‘co-coach’ with another coach.

How do I get gear? Not Available for Spring 2021 Season
Once placed with a team, each head coach is given an equipment bag complete with cones, pinnies, a ball, and a whistle.  More information will be given to you after registration and at our regular coaches meetings.

Where will my team practice? 
Teams typically practice in the same geographical area as the school that the majority of the players on the team are from.  Spokane Rapids also reserves a limited number of fields at Plante's Ferry Sports Complex for recreational team practices.  Practice locations are based on field availability.  Our office staff will help you find and reserve the location that works best for your team.

Can I coach my kid? 
Yes! To coach your child’s team, please add your child’s name in the appropriate field during coach registration.

I know that I won’t be available every weekend to coach. Can I still coach? 
Yes! Please register as a head coach. Once complete, communicate with our office and let them know that you need an assistant and we will find someone to work with you! Parents on the team also make great 'sub' coaches for the occasional missed practice or game!
